Lovely Australian Boulder Opal & Tanzanite Ring

From our 'Up and Comer's Collection', here's a lovely 'Australian Boulder Opal Triplet (1.85 Ct., Oval Cut), Tanzanite (.87 ctw, Round Cut) and Diamond (.03 ctw., Round Cut) Fashion Ring', set in Platinum over Sterling Silver, size 7 with TGW 2.75 ctw. Triplet Opal consists of three layers.  

A thin slice of Opal (Boulder opal in this case), adhered to a black backing (e.g. ironstone) and capped with a clear top, usually Quartz. By attaching the slice of opal to a black backing (Doublet), the Opal color becomes much darker and more vibrant. Triplet contains a clear quartz top to create a shinny appearance and protect the tinny sliced natural opal, as well as intensify the appearance.

Please note: Doublets and triplets are generally much cheaper than solid black opals as they only contain a small amount of genuine opal. These Opals are a nice alternative if you don't want to drop thousands on a Solid Black Opal.
