Seraphinite is a trade name for a particular form of clinochlore and a member of the mineral chlorite group. Seraphinite acquired its name due to its resemblance to feathers, such as one might find on a bird's wing. Seraphinite is generally dark green to gray in color, has natural chatoyancy effect (i.e. cat's eye effect, due to silk inclusions). Seraphinite is mined in a limited area of eastern Siberia in Russia and can only be mined 3 months out of the year due to the adverse elements.
